Sanibel - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing report for Sanibel week ending 5/2/09 yes the tarpon are back in good numbers and with them plenty of sharks. Early in the week bay fishing slowed due to some very weak tides, there are still plenty of snook to find but getting them to eat can take more time than you want to spend. Thank goodness we have got a few days we were able to get out off the beaches although as I am writing this report the wind was back strong today. Fishing with James Gunn on friday morning off Sanibel in a stiff breeze we went 0 for 1 on tarpon seeing a lot of fish even though it was rough early. James did get a nice 6 ft hammerhead a 5ft very accrobatic blacktip and another 3ft blacktip, all taken on threadfinns.
Fishing with my friend Bob Monfort and my son Dustin on saturday Dustin got his first tarpon of the year a 70 lb. fish he caught also on threadfinns. There are plenty of fish off the beaches and still some open days in May and June.
