Sanibel - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing report for the week ending 10/18/09 at last we have a break from the heat on friday even though it was still warm you could feel a change in the air with a 15 mph west wind and more clouds. The snook and redfish bite was good with slot fish at most stops we made, live shinners and pinfish either free lined or under a bobber worked best. The west wind and a approaching front made for higher than normal tides. Our last stop on the day was a small island in San Carlos Bay that was surrounded by bait, there is so much bait that at times it is hard to get the fish to feed. Fishing with Ed Jackubowski and his friend we were there just in time to see a feeding frenzy of jacks, as Ed and his friend cast into it he was hit immediatly by not a jack but a 8 lb. redfish and the next cast was a 9 lb. snook. timing can be everthing! There are nice mangrove snapper inside the passes and in the mouth of the river along with lots of trout and mackeral on the grass in 3-5 ft of water. I did have the chore of fishing Saturday after the wind switched north 20 witch made fishing difficult at best. We did manage to catch some nice snapper and mackeral in some foul weather. After the front passes we should have some great weather days get out and fish!
