Sanibel - Saltwater Fishing Report

January is here and the cold weather has arrived. Jan, 2nd I had the pleasure to Guide Nick and Zac from Michigan. We began the trip at the Punta Rassa launch located at the foot of the Sanibel causeway.

I was suprised to see only Guides there before me. The wind was blowing 10-15 mph and the temperature was a chilly 46 deg. Burrrrr. We went to a great sandbar to see what the weather hadn't chased off. The pompano were gone and after a few drifts with the Ladyfish I decided to run to a creek mouth.

The bite started slow and picked up steadly with the incomming tide. Trout went to the ice box for dinner. We caught small redfish and one snook. I couldn't believe it 59 deg on the Garmin, and he still wanted to bite.
You just have to slow down and fish the deeper holes and channels with shrimp or jigs. The fish are still there we just have to change the presentation.
