Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing was very good this week on the deep grass flats in Sarasota Bay. Almost all of the fish were caught by clients using Bass Assassin Sea Shad baits on a ¼ ounce jig head, with Glow/chartreuse being the most productive color. A few fish were caught on free lined live shrimp. Speckled trout, bluefish, sea bass, grouper, and ladyfish were plentiful at the Middlegrounds and Stephen's Pt. Ladyfish were thick in Big Pass. Snook, jacks, and snapper hit pilchards in Robert's bay.

Saizel Surti from Vancouver treated his wife and son to an afternoon charter. The bite was steady at Stephen's Pt for a couple of hours, before slowing down as the tide quit. It was a tad slow for an hour but then they finished up with a hot bite at the Middlegrounds as ladyfish were busting all over the surface.

Jay and Peg Lalley from Chicago and their daughter Sarah had a good charter later in the week. We started off with fast action on ladyfish in Big Pass, then moved to a nearby flat and caught a few sea bass and grouper. My buddy Capt Roy String was coming in from offshore with a load of bait and gave me a bunch; thanks, Roy! We worked several spots in Robert's Bay, catching snook, snapper, and a bunch of jacks.

On Saturday I took Beth Reis from Lakeland, FL and Sarasota resident Carissa Barnes out for a fun trip and to get some pictures for upcoming articles and web projects. We caught bluefish and ladyfish using Bass Assassin jigs at the Middlegrounds, then I ran south, caught some bait, and had fun with jacks and a snook in Robert's Bay.
