Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Severe cold fronts have drastically changed the fishing in Sarasota since New Years Day. Water temperatures dropped twenty degrees, down to near 50 degrees! The deep flats are just too cold and the water was dirty from the wind. Finding warmer weather was critical and clients did well way up in Phillippi Creek, catching jack crevelle and snook casting plugs and jigs. The jacks were particularly active, and several "triple-headers" were had today. Another tactic that produces when it gets cold is to bottom fish with shrimp around structure in deeper water, and Big Sarasota Pass has plenty of that. Snappers, grouper, and sheepshead were plentiful, and while many were small, some decent fish were caught as well. That is my current Siesta Key fishing report.
