Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing has been excellent this week! Strong incoming tides in the morning along with clear skies and southeasterly breezes resulted in good conditions for catching both bait and game fish. The deep grass flats at Marker #5, Bird Key, middlegrounds, Moorings, and Bishop's Pt. provided excellent action on speckled trout and ladyfish this week. Chumming and fishing with live pilchards, grunts, and pinfish kept clients very busy.
On Monday we had a fantastic morning of trout fishing. Monte Clithero and Dana Lantgen of Springfield, MO caught two dozen trout between 16″ and 22″ near the Moorings on pilchards and pinfish.
Felisha and Clint Hoover took their 8 year old son Gavin out on Tuesday. They caught a bunch of trout and ladyfish near the Twin Bridges, along with a nice flounder that Gavin caught.
The Heard family from Sarasota went out on Wednesday and caught a bunch of trout including for in the slot to 18″ and loads of ladyfish in the Yacht Club Channel, Moorings, and the Middlegrounds.
Shawn Dyer from Maine took out two buddies on Thursday, it was his birthday. The flats near Big Pass gave up a bunch of trout and ladyfish along with a nice 3 pound Spanish mackerel for the grill.
Robert Kissick from the Orlando area was in town with some buddies for a wedding and fished with me on Saturday morning. We had a great trip, experiencing non-stop action at Marker # 5. We teamed up with fellow CB's guide Capt Roy String and using pilchards chummed the fish into a frenzy. Speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, bluefish, and ladyfish kept a constant bend in our rods. We finished up at a dock on Siesta Key and landed a nice flounder, a couple more snapper to 12″ and a 16″ redfish.
