Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anglers fishing with me caught a wide variety of species this week. Spanish mackerel, pompano, speckled trout, bluefish. jack crevelle, snook, redfish, bonnethead sharks, bluefish, flounder mangrove snapper, and ladyfish were all caught on charters this week. I have been doing well on pompano using the Bomber saltwater grade 1/4 pompano jig in bright green in Big Pass and the Yacht Club Channel. Trout and mackerel are hitting shrimp, pilchards, and Cotee jigs on the surrounding flats while reds, jacks, and snapper are being caught on pilchards in the canals and creeks.
On Monday Joshua Schlie from Ohio caught trout, mackerel, and ladyfish on the flats near Bird Key, then finished up with a couple of fat mangrove snappers near the mouth of Phillippi Creek. They enjoyed a nice fish dinner that evening!
Wednesday Al Rullmann and his son Jeff enjoyed a great morning of speckled trout fishing, landing a 24" and 20" trout along with several other keepers on live pilchards. The flats near the Twin Bridges were best.
On Saturday Angela Johnston and her boyfriend Randy Wingard caught snapper and redfish on shrimp in Phillippi Creek, a half dozen pompano along with big ladyfish in big Pass on Bomber jigs and live shrimp, and trout to 18" on the nearby flats on live shrimp. The highlight of the trip was 3 nice bonnethead sharks, great sport on light spinning tackle!
Sunday morning Sarasota resident Chris Bonnet and his visiting brother Phil caught pompano and ladyfish in Big Pass on Bomber jigs and Spanish mackerel and speckled trout on live shrimp near Bird Key.
