Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing was excellent again this week. High tides in the morning along with loads of bait made for constant action on the deep flats near Big Pass the the docks on the north end of siesta Key in Roberts Bay. High winds from Irene kept me home towards the end of the week, but things should pick right back up on Monday.
Monday found Rob Robinson and his son Lucas from Grand Island, NY on my boat. We had an excellent morning, landing a ton of speckled trout to 16", several Spanish mackerel to 3 lbs, ladyfish, mangrove snapper, sea bass, and catfish at the Bird Key and Marker # 5 flats. We then moved to work some docks on the north end of Siesta Key and caught 2 flounder and several more snapper. Live baitfish and shrimp were used.
Later in the week Roger Corrente from Rhode Island took out his two boys Matt and Nick. The rain had dropped the water temperature down to 79 degrees, and the fish were invigorated! Action in the Yacht Club Channel and at the Marker # 5 flats was virtually non-stop. Big ladyfish, speckled trout to 20", mangrove snapper to 13", and Spanish mackerel to 2 1/2 lbs hit bait fish and shrimp on just about every cast.
