Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing in the inshore Gulf of Mexico was very good early in the week before the front moved through. Spanish mackerel to 4 pounds were feeding near the beach. East winds are forecast for the upcoming week and hopefully this action will resume along with some big king mackerel and bonita. It was breezy on Wednesday and Thursday and fishing was fair on the east side of the bay and in the Yacht Club Channel. Speckled trout, bluefish, Spanish mackerel, black sea bass, and ladyfish hit gold Cotee jigs and live shrimp.
Snook are starting to move up into the rivers and creeks and are being caught on Rapalas and soft plastic baits. The water level in the Myakka River is perfect in both the tidal portion and the stretch in the state park. I offer a unique angling experience for these gamefish in the cooler months. It is a "quality over quantity" deal, but every trip gives anglers the opportunity to land a trophy fish, and the scenery is spectacular! On Saturday afternoon I did a little scouting and landed a snook estimated at ten pounds. Snook and bass are biting in the lower section and bluegill, bass, and catfish are available up-river.
Bob Stack and treated his father-in-law and brother-in-law to a trip on Friday afternoon. We fished Stephen's Pt, Bishop's Pt., and the Moorings and although we did not catch a lot of fish, they landed some quality fish. Spanish mackerel to nearly 4 pounds, keeper speckled trout, and big ladyfish hit live shrimp, pilchards, and Gulp! Shrimp.
