Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Tropical Storm Andrea effectively shut down fishing on Thursday and affected the fishing over the weekend. I was able to in three trips early in the week. Speckled trout to 20", silver trout, bluefish to 3 pounds, Spanish mackerel to 2 1/2 pounds, jacks and ladyfish were caught near Bird Key and on the west side near the Moorings. Gulp! and live shrimp fooled them.
Bill Ritchey from Akron, OH and his daughter Laura started my week out again; they fished with me last Sunday, too. This time we left 10th Street and headed north to show them areas we had not fished before. The Middlegrounds, Moorings, and Bishop's Pt. were all productive and fishing was pretty steady. We caught a few fish on live shrimp but the best action was experienced using Gulp! Shrimp. Speckled trout to 20" (we released everything, but a half-dozen or so were in the slot), bluefish to 2 pounds, jacks, and ladyfish kept the rods bent.
Derek Hart, his son Julian, mom Ann and brother caught speckled trout to 20", silver trout, bluefish to 3 pounds, and ladyfish on the deep grass flats on the west side of the bay on Tuesday. Gulp! Shrimp caught most of the fish; the Moorings and Bishop's Pt were the best spots.
Mark Bloom from Ft. Wayne, IN and his nephew Devin Bojrab caught speckled trout, silver trout, Spanish mackerel, snapper, jacks, and ladyfish free lining live shrimp on the edges of flats near Bird Key on Wednesday, just before the wind cranked up as Andrea was approaching
