Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Back out on the water after nearly a month off, glad to be back at it! I did a little "shake down" trip for both me and my boat with my friend Beth Reis from Lakeland, FL. We left Centennial Park and ran across to New Pass where bait was thick. A couple of tosses of the net filled the well with pilchards of varying sizes. I motored over to Bird Key and the fish were biting without even chumming! Several 2 lb Spanish mackerel, some ladyfish and speckled trout kept up busy. After 45 minutes of steady action and a few macks on ice, we decided to try and catch a snook or redfish. Working docks in Robert's Bay resulted in snook, redfish, and jack crevelle. Beth kicked my butt, catching an "inshore slam" ( a snook, red, and trout in the same day), topping off the morning with a gorgeous 25" redfish.
The water temperature was 76 degrees in the morning, a little bit lower and the action on the beach should kick off. The water in the bay is dark from all the rain, but it will clear up quickly and fishing is good.
