Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

The most reliable fishing this week has been the deeper grass flats throughout the area. Spanish mackerel, bluefish, pompano, speckled trout, jacks, flounder, and ladyfish are all daily catches. Jigs work very well for fishing the deep flats as they allow anglers to cover a lot of water. Keep moving until a productive flat is located. Big Pass also holds some fish; mackerel, jacks, ladyfish, blues, and flounder. Cotee and D.O.A. jigs in gold, glow, and rootbeer/gold work best for me. If the bite is slow I'll switch to Gulp! baits. Live shrimp also caught a few fish.
I did some river and freshwater fishing, too. Snook fishing in the Myakka River has been reliable this year so far. I fished Lake Manatee and Upper Myakka Lake and both were slow for me, just a few crappie and bream. Upper Myakka Lake is VERY low, the deepest spot I marked was 2.2 feet.
