Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

I started off the week with a productive Myakka River fishing charter with Mike White from Illinois. We boated 3 nice snook in the 25" range, a small fish and mike landed a gorgeous 33" fish! That's why we fish the river; there is an opportunity to land a trophy fish on every trip. All of the fish hit a #10 gold Rapala X-Rap Slashbait.
On Tuesday Jeff Bishop from Cleveland, OH went out with me. The tide was still falling as we idled north, so we worked the edges of the Intracoastal Waterway. Jeff caught a huge jack crevelle on a white X-Rap. Spanish mackerel and ladyfish hit jigs and live shrimp in Big Pass and the surrounding flats. He also caught some sheepshead under docks along Bird Key.
I had a very productive trip with Doc Dojutrek and John Englander, both transplants from the Chicago area. They caught Spanish mackerel to 3 pounds, speckled trout to 20", black sea bass, jack crevelle, and loads of ladyfish using jigs, plugs, and live shrimp at the Marina Jack, Bird Key, and Ringling deep grass flats. We hit a couple of docks and caught a couple of sheepshead at the first one, then hit the "mother load" at the second! In 45 minutes we limited out on big mangrove snapper, every one was between 12" and 14".
Thursday I launched the boat, but bad weather forced us to cancel as severe storms were rapidly advancing. Friday it was blowing 25 + out of the northwest, no fishing!
On Saturday I ran a 4 boat trip out of CB's. I had John Miliziano, George Keough, and Chuck Toner aboard. Action was steady on the flats near Big Pass, despite cloudy water from the recent blow. Speckled trout to 18", Spanish mackerel to 2 pounds, jack crevelle, sailcats, and ladyfish hit shrimp and jigs. We moved to docks and caught sheepshead and finished up with a snook.
