Sarasota Fishing Report Capt Jim klopfer 8/29/2015

Capt. Jim Klopfer
August 29, 2015
Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing was good once again this week, with the deep grass flats near New Pass being the most productive spots. Bait was easy early in the week, and a bit tougher towards the end of the week, the increased wind did not help. Still, the well was loaded and the fish came strong to the chum. Speckled trout to 23", Spanish mackerel to 3 pounds, bluefish to 3 pounds, mangrove snapper, sea bass, gag grouper, and ladyfish hit live bait on the deep grass flats, with the Middlegrounds being the best spot for my clients this week.

Early in the week Donna Raines from Ohio took our her son Jesse on a fishing charter. The action was pretty much non-stop all morning! We cast Bass Assassin jigs for a half hour in the morning, with Jesse catching a nice bluefish and Donna landing several fish. The wind quit so I loaded up on bait and we sat in one spot for a while, landing Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, mangrove snapper, and more. I reloaded and anchored near a bunch of baitfish working on the surface. Donna and Jesse caught several trout near 20", a half dozen bluefish, sea bass, snapper, mackerel, and ladyfish until it was time to go home.

Steve Owens from Cincinnati and Sarasota resident Doc Dojutrek had a good trip this week. We started off casting jigs at first light, without much success. I caught bait, and from then on action was very steady with quite a few "double headers". Speckled trout, Spanish mackerel, mangrove snapper, sea bass, gag grouper, and ladyfish hit pilchards at two different spots at the Middlegrounds.

I finished up my week with Bob Siemering from Boston, MA and his two boys Joe and Michael. The fish bit god early, then it tapered off. They did not catch a lot of fish, but did get some quality. Speckled trout of 22" and 20" along with more smaller fish, eight Spanish mackerel, all of decent size, and mangrove snapper hit live bait fish at the Middlgrounds and Radio Tower.
