Sarasota Fishing Report Capt Jim Klopfer 10/24/2015

Capt. Jim Klopfer
October 24, 2015
Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Action was decent on the deep grass flats this week, though the numbers were down from last week. This was mostly due to the persistent 10-15 knot northeast wind, which can make feeling the bite and managing the slack line a bit more difficult. Anglers caught a few fish on glow/chartreuse Bass Assassin jigs, but most of the fish fell to live bait. Spanish mackerel, speckled trout, jack crevelle, gag grouper, mangrove snapper, sea bass, ladyfish, and other species were landed by clients this week. I also did a little freshwater fishing, catching small bass and some nice-sized bream in the Manatee River using Rapalas and black Beetlespins.

I took off a couple of days early in the week, too windy! I fished the Manatee River on Tuesday afternoon with Jessica Bridgeman from Sarasota. Small bass hit a #8 Rapala X-Rap and bream were caught on a small black Beetlespin.

On Wednesday Rich Galloway from St Louis, MO fished with me. The bite was decent, but we never really got a good flurry going. We started off at Stephen's Pt casting jigs and landing a few trout and a mackerel. I caught some live bait and hit several spots near the passes, catching a few at each spot.

The bite was a bit better on Friday for long-time client Terry Mark from Olean, NY. We started off free lining live shrimp near Bird Key, catching a few grouper. We moved to Big Pass and caught a few nice ladyfish and a Spanish mackerel. I caught bait and we sat in one spot at the Radio Tower with terry getting a bite on almost every cast. Most of the fish were trout with a few macks, snapper, grouper, and a jack mixed in.
