Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

The pattern of fronts continued this week, with once again the key to success being taking advantage of windows" of nice weather in between. It was cool and breezy early in the week, but then gorgeous on Thursday and Friday. Plenty of ladyfish kept the rods bent and anglers smiling while sheepshead and snapper provided some tasty fish tacos! 4" Bass Assassin Sea Shad grubs fooled the ladies and shrimp accounted for the bottom fish. The sheepies and snapper were caught in Big Pass and in residential canals. The key to finding the ladies was to get away from the dirty water near the passes; both Robert's Bay and Stephen's Pt were productive.

I picked up Evan and his cousin Brad, a couple of farm boys from Indiana on Thursday afternoon at Bay Island Park. The water coming in from the Gulf of Mexico was filthy, so we stayed south in Robert's Bay, experiencing very good action on decent sized ladyfish. We left them biting and hit a few docks and oyster bays, landing a few sheepshead, a black drum, and a redfish. We finished up with a few more ladyfish on the way in.
Friday morning dawned clear, sunny, and warm with a light breeze. Karen and Dan Ugine and Linda and Alan Lefko, all from Penn Yan, NY were my clients that morning. The girls mostly just hung out while the boys fished, but they did catch a couple. We started off in Big Pass, catching sheepshead and snapper on the slack tide. Once the tide picked up, we moved to Robert's Bay and caught a couple dozen ladyfish, then finished up in a residential canal on Siesta Key, where Dan landed 2 nice sheepshead to top off the trip.
