Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook fishing is very good and improving by the week in the rivers and creeks. Rapala X-Rap plugs in gold and firetiger are fooling snook, jacks, and even largemouth bass. The deep grass flats near Big Sarasota Pass are providing steady action on speckled trout and large ladyfish. The pass itself was good for pompano and ladyfish on jigs. Redfish, sheepshead, black drum, and flounder hit live shrimp fished around bars and docks on the north end of Siesta Key.
I took a short vacation this week, but still got out a couple of times this week. On Wednesday, the crew was led by Mark Magdaleno from Ft Lauderdale, FL. Mark works for Columbia, the outdoor clothing company, and treated a couple of buyers to a fishing trip. We caught speckled trout and ladyfish on gold D.O.A. Cal jigs at Marker # 5, then moved to the docks and bars near Siesta Key. Using live shrimp, they caught several species including redfish, flounder, and black drum.
On another trip, Sarasota resident Doc Dojutrek and I landed a dozen snook and 10 bass on Rapala plugs in the Myakka River, topped off by a 5 lb largemouth that was fooled by a firetiger Rapala X-Treme Shallow plug.
