Silver trout and flounder action in Sarasota

Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report
Silver trout action has been outstanding of late! Small chartreuse jigs and fresh or frozen shrimp pieces are accounting for a nice box of tasty fillets in short order. I have been starting out targeting these fish, then once we have enough for a meal, moving on to other species. The deep dredged areas around the passes have been the most productive spots. Speckled trout and ladyfish are on the flats, sheepshead and flounder are under docks. Bluefish were thick in New Pass along with some Spanish mackerel.
Early in the week Dick Fletcher from Eagan, MN took out his broher Tom and a friend out. We loaded up on silver trout them moved to deep grass edges and caught speckled trout and ladyfish. We finished up working a couple of docks on the north end of Siesta Key and caught several flounder and a pair of sheepshead. All the fish were caught on shrimp.
Greg Altemose spent Thursday morning with his 3 boys David (10), Gregory (9), and Mattew (8). Once again, we started out with non-stop action on silver trout near the Twin Bridges. Speckled trout and ladyfish hit free lined live shrimp on the Bird Key flats. Fish of the day was a fat 3 1/2 pound sheepshead that we caught on a drop-off near Otter Key.
Friday's charter with Longboat Key resident Jim Mitchel and his brother John who was in from SC was fantastic! I suppose the approaching front had them in a mood to chew. We started out catching speckled trout, silver trout, ladyfish, flounder, jack crevelle, and a shark on jigs and shrimp near Bird Key. We then caught a handful of bluefish on jigs in Big Pass before running out to the Silvertooth Reef. A pair of nice flounder, a decent sheepshead and an unexpected 4 lb speckled trout were caught there on live shrimp. We finished up with a frenzy on the New Pass Bar. Using gold D.O.A. shad tail jigs we experienced non-stop action on bluefish, Spanish mackerel, and a couple of sharks.
