Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing was outstanding this week as we came off the full moon. Spanish mackerel and speckled trout are plentiful on the deep flats near Big Pass, snook and jack crevelle are around structure along Siesta Key.
The weatherman blew it on Monday, so I used that time to get some maintenance done. On Tuesday Gary Fields from Louisville, KY took his girlfriend Sharon Thornsberry out fishing with me. Speckled trout to 21" and Spanish mackerel to 3 lbs hit live threadfins on the flats near Otter Key, along with ladyfish, sea bass, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, and catfish. We finished up landing a 2lb and 8 lb jack crevelle in Phillippi Creek.
Nancy and Carmine Vetrano from Medford, MA went out with me on Wednesday morning. Nancy is very much the novice, but she did very well, landing a dozen Spanish mackerel to 3 1/2 lbs on threadfins in the Yacht Club Channel and near the Ringling Bridge. Carmine caught his share, too, along with a nice speckled trout in the slot.
Charles Boyter from NJ had a great morning on Thursday. We started off landing a pair of 18" speckled trout, a 26" snook, and several ladyfish in the idle zone mouth of CB's on gold/black Rapala X-Raps. The tide quit so we ran to Big Pass to catch bait and quickly landed a dozen Spanish mackerel as some weather was approaching. We ran back south and caught a 14" mangrove snapper and a couple of jacks near the mouth of Phillippi Creek before the rain chased us home.
Philly boys Garth Little and Frank Lynch went out with me on Friday. The Spanish mackerel bite was steady on the deep flats in the Yacht Club Channel, along with plenty of ladyfish and trout. A bonnethead shark was landed at Marker # 5, then we finished up in Phillippi Creek catching a 4 pound jack, several mangs, and a couple of ladyfish.
