Sarasota - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing was very good once again this week. The weatherman did give me a couple of days off in the middle of the week, but the several cloudy days along with the rain lowered the water temperature into the low 80s, and that seemed to invigorate the fish! Speckled trout are abundant on the deep flats, along with good numbers of mangrove snapper. The docks and other structure along the north end of Siesta Key are producing nice mangs along with redfish, flounder, and snook. Large pilchards and hand-picked shrimp were the most productive baits.
On Monday the Crawdford family from Ohio had a very good morning. Chumming live shinere on the deep flats in the Yacht Club Channel resulted in non-stop action on trout, snapper, and ladyfish. We then moved to the docks near Siesta Drive Bridge and caught reds, snapper and a snook. Youung Caden Crawford (7) caught an inshore slam (snook, red, and trout) on his first ever boat trip. Nice job!!
Thomas (11) and Danica (15) Williams from the UK experienced similar action later in the week. After netting up bait, it was constant action at Marker # 5 on trout, ladyfish and snapper. A move to the docks resulted in flounder and several more snapper.
Sunday monring found Mary Lauderdale and Andrew Rice on a charter, aliong with mary's dad, Bill. We caught several nmangs to 12" and a couple of ladyfish free lining live shrimp on the outgoing tide near the mouth of Phillippi Creek.
