Sebastian - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been cool all week long, but local fisherman/friend, Jack Balme, and I tried our luck in the Indian River for a few hours last Friday. When we first tested the water, the temps registered 58°, but at least the winds were calm for the first time in several days. We worked a few areas around the channel and deep-hole drops--with no success--so we moved to the flats, hoping that the water had warmed somewhat. We were right; the temps were up to 60°, a slight difference, but we managed to bring in some sea trout, small jacks, and sail catfish--of all which were hanging close to the bottom.
Overall, fishing has been slow because of the above-mentioned cold weather (with some 30-degree numbers in the night/early morning and a high of only 60° at midday.) However, the weather forecasts indicate that the situation will be improving over the next couple of weeks, and we're keeping our fingers crossed that the action will heat up, as well.
