Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

I think that it is absolutely fantastic that some of you guys have started reporting about your trips to the Stick Marsh. Keep them coming as every bit of information can help the next fisherman have a better trip out here.
As Hugh stated in his report the fishing is awesome at the Marsh. Shiners with floats or shiners free lined stand little chance of escaping the gaping maw of a lunker bass.
Today I took Sid Ryan from Virginia out on his annual visit to the Marsh. Some of you know Sid as he is the Va. BASS Federation, District 7 Director. We started at first light and headed to the NW area of the Stick Marsh in the palms. With chrome/blue rattletraps we worked over all the lay down and boated several nice fish. Sid had on one that was probably 8-9 pounds but a not-so-strong hook set allowed this on to get back to swimming before the picture. After leaving a few rattle traps behind in the brush and lay downs we decided to move back to the Farm to see what was happening there.
We started on the E/W canal, E of the center N/S ditch with Carolina rigs. Working our way westward we had little success. After a short trial of the center N/S ditch and also little success we decided to track these sneaky ole bass down.
Moving to the southern end of the Farm and just west of center we started throwing rattletraps. It didn't take long to track down a fairly large school and we converted to Carolina rigged worms with a 1/8th ounce weight. Today was windy so we had to constantly reposition the boat and drift the school. There preference in color, if any could be called would be watermelon. However, we caught them with bubblegum, June bug, watermelon, pumpkinseed, banana, and white plastics. We caught them with hard jerk bait, soft jerk bait, and spinner baits. Whatever we threw the bass bit.
At the end of an exciting day we headed for the ramp with memories of 70+ bass up to 8 pounds that came into the boat. We also pondered the errors made that allowed another 10-20 slip the baits. For Sid, today was as good as it gets, which makes for him two great trips to the Marsh. For those that are reading these reports, it lets you know that artificial baits produce on the Marsh and they produce with certainty both quantity and quality bass. If you find the bass, the bait can be a shiner or a Carolina rigged worm, and the bass will bite.
If you want to sample some of the great fishing at the Marsh with a guide that cares then I have two suggestions. 1: Call and book with me, and if I am busy then book with Hugh Crumpler. 2: Call and book with Hugh Crumpler and if he is busy then call and book with me. By following suggestion 1 or 2 you will be guaranteed to get a guide that cares, can show you the Marsh, and in the process teach you a little bit more about fishing.
