Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Today’s trip started with an early morning stop at Middleton’s Stick Marsh Bait & Tackle. Since Joe Middleton has taken over this store it is pretty well stocked and they are now carrying Senkos. Three bags of Senkos, some hooks, weights, and swivels for Carolina rigs were the baits that I was recommending to the Colemans for their trip to the Marsh.

I am almost the “world’s worst” when it comes to remembering first names. I usually need to hear a name more than once in order for it to sink in. However, today was easy as the Colemans all carried the first name of John. Three generations and I had no problem remembering the names.

We left the ramp at 6:30 and headed out for the current and the bass. We rigged the Carolina rigs with 3/8 ounces of weight, a swivel, 18 inches of leader, a 4/0 Gammy EWG, and watermelon Senkos w/red flakes. We averaged 2 bass per Senko and the fish ran from 1.5 pounds to 4.5 pounds.

11:00 came and the Colemans were headed back to Plant City with memories of the 60 bass and good times on the Stick Marsh/Farm 13. The Senkos performed flawlessly as usual and the Carolina rig was definitely the way to present them.

Catfish, Bream, and Crappie are being caught in abundance as well as the Bass. With the Bass you only have to locate current and stay put. There is current at every intersection, on every point, at all the pumps and the spillway area, and even at the cut into the Marsh and up the 54 canal. If you have the depth crank baits will work, if it’s shallower than rattle traps and the smaller crank baits are working, but for the ultimate tool I would have to say go to the Carolina rig. You can catch them with any plastic; however if you want to maximize your success go with the Senko.

See you on the water. Say hi if you get the chance, and oh, by the way: I do have openings if you want to take a trip. We might catch a lot of fish, but if the day goes against us we will still have fun.
