Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Submitted by George, Imagination Bassin Guide Services

Date Fished: 12/19/02

Water Temperature: 67

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

I had the day off yesterday so off to the Marsh I went. The weather was gorgeous, with temperatures that weren't too hot, nor too cold, clear skies, and little to no wind.

I met friends John Picardi and Jim Comeaux on the water at about 8:00 and after chatting for a short bit I took them to an area that has been working pretty well with shiners. The first shiner barely hit the lake and it was bass fodder. I stayed for a few moments and watched and then headed out for the pump house.

Before John and Jim had shown up I had been working the 1st ditch below the intersection and managed several smaller bass. When I got to the pump house I found that the pump wasn't running but my Garmin was telling me that fish were all over the area. Dropping anchor I started casting until I found the right line. Casting to the same spot over and over with C-rigged Senkos, yielded quite a few fish with a couple of 5-pound ladies in there. The sun was warm; I had the back deck to myself and actually spent most of the morning sitting. For those that have been out with me, you know what I think about "sit'n'fish".

At 11:30 one of the "very" regular Marsh fishermen, (Steve P.) swung by and I invited him to join in the fun, so we rafted the boats. As we tied the boats together the "li'l bass devils" must have been busy casting their spells upon the waters because my last bass that I caught before Steve got there was the last bass that was seen there.

At 12:30 anchors were pulled and lines cast off. Even though we knew the bite would return we opted to try a spot that Steve had been on over on the west wall. Steve had been working this spot all morning and it had out produced the pump house area by a good dozen or so fish. Once anchored we commenced throwing baits: I used a rattletrap and Steve threw shallow running crank bait. As luck would have it the new one on the spot, (ME), would be the lucky one and catch most of the bass that wanted to play. By 2:15 the day was called and off to the ramp we went.

Synopsis: The fish were hitting most bait thrown at them. The fish definitely wanted to play but you had to really work the area you were fishing. Sitting still, (anchored), was better than moving about. Steve and I had over 100 bass between us, so yes the fishing is fantastic and the day was a smashing success. I talked with John and Jim when they got back to the ramp and once out of shiners they worked on the west side with Brushhogs and although they didn't say how many, they did say they had a fantastic day.

See you out there. On my way to the lake in 15 minutes to try to have a repeat of yesterday. Say hi if you get the chance. Have a great Holiday Season.
