Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report
Date Fished: 4/3/2000
Water Temperature: 78
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet
The fishing on the Stick/Farm has settled into a post-spawn pattern with the bass moving out into the Farm. The boat trails become the place to be now and the last two days winds have made it difficult. However we were able to make it work and have gotten some pretty good numbers and quality for our efforts. Yesterday, after we settled down from the Mudfish incident,(see Mudfish) Scott and I boated in excess of 35 bass. Today while waiting for my client I fished the entranceway to the Stick Marsh and boated over 20 bass right there. We headed out to the Farm as soon as he arrived and during the course of the day we caught another 30-40. Largest bass today was about 4 lbs but most fish were in the 2-3 lb range. Boat placement is the key when fishing this trails. Fish are found east of the trails and most often right at or near the lip of the dropoff. Carolina rigs or Texas rigs work best with an occasional spurt on the rattletrap. Be slow and thorough and it will pay off. Look at the map on my page: Click on aerial view and locate the two middle N/S canals. Fish north of the E/W canal and you will do well.
19.2 Pound Bowfin caught on a rattletrap
Sunday, 8:30 AM, Scott Welcome of Imagination Bassin Guide Services caught a 19.2 pound Bowfin, (Mudfish), while burning a rattletrap through Hydrilla. This giant fish attempted to swallow the trap and was probably as supprised as we were.
Pictures can be seen at www.atlantic.net/~acstech.
The existing Florida record for this fish is 19 pounds which will stand as we did not take the time to correctly document this fish.
