Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Capt. George Welcome

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Date Fished: 4/14/2000

Water Temperature: 76

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

Water conditions couldn't be much better on both the Stick Marsh/Farm 13 and Ansin/Garcia. For the last week you had to dodge between storms to get some fishing in but the catching was great while you were out there.

On the Farm bass are being caught with various crank baits and plastics. Good fish and plenty of them continue to be found on the boat trails and their adjacent levees. I find Carolina rigs and watermelon/chart tail lizards to be outstanding. For cranks we have been using the standard 1/2-ounce chrome/blue rattletrap and a myriad of small lipped crank baits. Snatching them right through the hydrilla has produced some exciting hits and good size fish. Not much on top water yet but it's coming.

On Garcia look for the fish in the NE impoundments holding close to lily pads. Few fish are being found on the grass yet. Early AM has some top water and we have had fish blow up on both chug-bugs and buzz baits. Plastics of choice are anything light in color and chart. tails have really added to the baits popularity. My stand-by in here is a Gambler salt-pepper flappin shad but I haven't been able to find any lately. Check the canals adjacent to grass lines. Some big fish have been gotten from these areas. Check the edges of the hydrilla build-up in the Pit. Lots of good fish there just are waiting for the right approach. Plastics thrown back on the hydrilla and pulled off the edge to drop are the ticket here. Also, try burning rattletrap or spinner bait right along the edge and be sure to bang it off the hydrilla.

As I said in the beginning the storms have been chugging through and with them comes lightening. If you see lightening, be smart and get off the water until the storm passes. Don't become a statistic. Good Fishing and good times.
