Stick Marsh & Farm 13

Stick Marsh-Farm 13 - Freshwater Fishing Report

Water Temperature: 88

Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

The weather here has been outstanding with plenty of sun and light winds. The fishing has been in the category of "WOW!" with fish stacked up in the south end of Farm 13. Top water bite has started at first light and continued throughout the day. Periodically there will be a slowdown but then the hit is on again. This has been the scenario for the last couple of weeks with the bait of choice being a chug bug. The bite went from being hot and heavy on a dead sticked bug to being hot and heavy on a slow moving but. The wind helped as it brought out the bigger fish and not only were plenty of bass caught but they went all the way up to 11 pounds.

The only problem with the fishing has been the stumps. With the water dropping due to lack of rain the Farm 13 south end has become quite hazardous and must be fished with extreme care.

Through yesterday we found all of above true but we did notice that the size of the fish was diminishing. This morning I started out in the SW end of the Farm but only landed a couple of smaller bass. I moved from there to the middle of the south end: (pinball alley), and found the same. Deciding that a migration had occurred I moved out to boat trails that I talk so much about. Starting in the intersection of the middle N/S trail we landed bass after bass and missed as many. No change in fishing tactics: top water was working great but we did add buzz bait. My client, who I had been having a ball with to this point, landed one after another of quality bass. As I had suspected, the fish are moving to their summer homes and we had a blast.

Be careful out there as water levels are low. Don't become a statistic by being hasty. The water is warm but it can be dangerous falling in as stumps are everywhere. Worse yet is the damage that they can do to lower units. Six boaters in the last week have sadly learned that lesson. If you're coming soon, look to the boat trails and you will have a fantastic day. See you out there.
