Dolphin Rule

Capt. Nick Cremasco
March 9, 2015
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

March 2:

We enjoyed some great weather today and even better fishing on our deep sea fishing charter. We started the day trolling and we kept the rods bent catching 6 bonito to 15lbs, 6 out of 10 dolphin bites to 12lbs, and a kingfish out of a couple.

When the trolling bite slowed down I decided to switch gears to bottom fishing for snapper and amberjacks. We caught a couple of undersized Amberjack, a dozen snapper and some sea bass for good measure.

All in all an action packed day with plenty for the dinner table.

March 3:

Today we fished a 3/4 day offshore fishing charter with Ken and his guests. We started the day trolling for dolphin and again they did not disappoint. We had 10 mahi bites trolling and boxed 6 of them again today. We also caught a couple of kings and bonito. I gave up on trolling about 11:30 and we went bottom fishing. In search of some snapper and sea bass and we found a few for the guys to add to the dinner menu. All in all a great day of deep sea fishing Stuart Florida.

While we were offshore fishing we did happen to see this amazing US warship. Had to google it when I got home. Let's just say I'm really glad it's ours...

March 5:

Last night we headed out with Andrew, Eddie and Gary for a night time swordfish charter. After canceling the last two daytime sword charters because of weather I was feeling pretty good about last night.

We had the weather, we had the moon phase and we had the bites. Just didn't have the luck. We had 5 bites from 4 fish throughout the entire night. But luck was not on our side and neither was the size of the fish. Of what we marked and what we saw the fish were very small (20-40lbs) Surely big enough for that release flag and especially to pop a cherry but we had a hard time getting the hook up on these little rascals last night.

But I got the fever again. Hoping to get out on the April full moon for another shot!

March 6:

Today we were scheduled for a 3/4 day fishing charter with George, Seth, Winston and Jim. My plan was to by-pass catching live bait and try to capitalize on a early morning bite from the full moon last night.

The plan paid off and we had 25 dolphin in the box before 8:30. We ended up catching 42 dolphin (keeping 38) and a kingfish for the smoker. The majority of the fish were caught trolling on an edge in 250ft of water. And the majority of the fish were in the 6-8lb range with the biggest ones around 12lbs.

After the trolling bites slowed I ran inshore and hit a few spots looking for cobia and then ran the beach. I saw a sailfish tailing in 20ft of water but no Cobia. Looks like we are going to get weathered out for the weekend. Can't wait to get back out after today's fishing though!
