Epic Tuna Fishing

Capt. Nick Cremasco
June 30, 2016
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

June 21:

We cancelled the last 3 days because of 20-25knot winds a large ground swell out of the NE and plenty of rain which was all associated with a stalling frontal boundary off of north Florisa and the Carolinas!

June 24:

We had a great 3/4 day charter with Darrel fishing for mahi and bottom fishing. We caught a 1/2 dozen mahi mahi to 30lbs and released a first sailfish for Justin. We also caught Amberjack, Snapper, SeaBass and more while fishing on the bottom out of the St Lucie Inlet in Stuart Florida!

June 25:

We were back at the dock by 1pm today. We had a great day catching 23 mahis keeping 17 and releasing a sailfish. Popped another cherry...

We caught most of the mahis in 240ft. I saw a sailfish free jumping when we were running and I was able to make a turn and we ran WOT to get in front of it. I pitched a couple baits and we hooked a fish right away and pulled another one off while fighting the first. Tried a little bit of bottom fishing but all trash fish for us today and green slime and cooling water on the bottom!

June 26:

Well we're getting back from a two day tuna trip! We had some excellent action and a lot of fun. We caught 30 tuna and quite the mixed bag.... We hooked a 5 banger of BIG EYES and caught 3 of those, we caught 3 YELLOWFIN to 35lbs, 17 BLACKFIN to 25lbs and 7 SKIPJACK TUNA! we kept our pelagic limit of 18 fish and let the rest go. We also had 4 billfish bites one that I didn't identify. We also released 2 BLUE MARLIN a first for Darren and Dans 2nd ever!

We lost a sea monster too that ate the right long and took 550+ yards of line by the time I got the drag backed off and rod passed down from the bridge. Either a big BLUE MARLIN or a BLUEFIN TUNA! Top 5 for swirls I've seen in my lifetime... Unfortunately I guess I didn't get the drag backed off enough and we parted the main line while backing through the spread to try and prevent getting spooled. Caught some YELLOWEYES today and a couple TARPON releases this morning before we left the dock!

Had a great 1/2 day of fishing with my Dad, my wife Mandy and son Zane. Weather was great and so was the fishing. We caught 11 mahi mahi to 18lbs, some Blackfin tuna and bonito as well between mahi mahi bites. Great fishing and calm weather going on.
