Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report
June 3:
It was an interesting day! I left my house at 1:45 and got to the boat only to realize I forgot the ballyhoos in the freezer LOL! Sweet round trip back to the house.
We had beautiful weather this morning and about 25 miles out we had a big blip on he radar but no Nav lights. Marshall and I strained our eyes and swore we saw a faint light as we passed 3/4 mile away. We went through the scenarios of sword gear, recreational sword boat, Cuba raft, smugglers, etc etc and I decided not to intercept! But after 4 miles of talking it out loud and debating we circled back thinking maybe it was a phone or a flashlight and someone trying to signal us. We steamed back to the radar image and got within a 1/2 mile and lit up the object with the spot light. It was a 20-25ft sailboat with no lights on but an interior light. With failed communication and seeing the boat was not sinking or in distress we carried on.
Fished about 12 packs of birds today and had good action but the Sharks were the worst I've seen and they got the better of us and some tackle including a couple of marauders and a cedar plug. We were sharked a total of 5 times but still managed to catch 13 tuna. We found some great pieces of float loaded with bait and some tripletails but no mahi or wahoo!
10 Blackfin
3-7 on yellowfin
June 4:
Adverse conditions to say the least today. We were strictly bottom fishing and I found wind drift, wind against the tide, trickle north tide, trickle of south tide, and when we anchored north tide on the top and south tide on the bottom.
We covered 75 miles and tried over 25 spots from 65-283ft
We caught 6 nice size Seabass, 6 porgies, a dozen genuine reds, 4 rudderfish, a limit of 5 AJs to 45lbs, 3-6 on grouper including a snowy, 15lb Gag and a strawberry my first out of Stuart in 37 years. 4 flag yellowtail, a keeper mutton and a 4lb mango and some triggerfish.
We pieced it together thankfully!
June 5:
Tough conditions but pieces together a decent catch for Brian and his Dad Tim on their 3/4 day. Some rudder fish, a dozen snapper including yellowtail, mangrove, mutton and genuine red, couple amberjack and Tims first grouper and biggest fish ever!
Nice job Tim
