Ready For Spring Weather

Capt. Nick Cremasco
April 19, 2017
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Locally over the past 3 weeks fishing continues to be good to excellent offshore. On our deep sea charters, mahi-mahi, sailfish, blackfin tuna, bonito and kingfish continue to make a decent showing. Rod bending bonito and tasty mahi-mahi are most prevalent. Spring mahi fishing continues to get better each passing day and the quality of the fish continues to grow. We are seeing more and more fish on a consistent basis in the high teens to 30 lb. range. Spring sailfish action continues to remain strong and over the last 4 days of fishing we have released 5 out of 9 bites. Blackfin tuna continue to make a decent showing on local deep sea charters. The fish we are catching are in the 10-20lb range.

Bottom fishing continues to remain strong for snapper and Grouper. Grouper season opens May 1st in the Atlantic waters and it's shaping up for an excellent opening month. Mangrove, mutton and genuine red snapper continue to amaze us with their size. Cobia and Permit fishing remains strong on the inshore structures. When the weather is good the sight fishing for these two species has been excellent.

We were weathered out on our first 2 east side tuna charters of the season. However the 3rd time was the charm. On our overnight tuna trip we caught 7 tuna to 111lbs, a dozen gaffer mahi mahi, a double-header of blue marlin (250,350lbs) and we were 0-5 on white marlin on our larger tuna ballyhoo and lures. Excellent fishing by any worldwide standard. We have about 20 days to choose from in May, June, July and August for our east side tuna trips. This is something you don't want to miss!

Fishing in the river continues to be excellent. On most days (4-5hr trip) anglers are averaging 15-25 snook catches. Along with plenty of snook the jacks are keeping the rod bent as well. Throw in some croakers, snapper, Goliath Grouper and flounder and you've had an excellent day of fishing with light tackle in the Indian river lagoon. If you're susceptible to motion sickness inshore charters are for you. Enjoy flat water in the river and constant action. Great for the kids as well.
