Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The March winds have been blowing and keeping us inside more days than we wanted to be. Several trips were lost due to high seas but that’s the way it is this time of year. My offshore report is going to sound like a carbon copy of the last one except for the bottom fishing which has been pretty good in the Eight Mile Reef area. The bottom guys are also running into a few cobia. The dolphin bite is still hit and miss but some bigger fish are finally being caught.. There was a flurry of sailfish a couple of days back, but it has slowed to a trickle. King mackerel are just beginning to move back up along with some barracuda. The cudas were enjoying the Spanish mackerel we were catching south of the St. Lucie Inlet, slicing them in half before you could reach the boat with them. Bait is plentiful if you take the time to look north of the inlet in 30 ft.

Inshore has been a mixed bag of snook, trout, and pompano. The snook are under docks and around the bridges. Live bait or bombers will entice a strike. Flair hawks due the trick at night. The pompano bite seems to be better on the outgoing tide on the flats. Several bonefish have been caught while targeting the pompano. There are bluefish in the inlet area on the incoming tide. Anything shiny thrown their way will work. Look for trout on the flats on either side of the Indian River and some reds by the docks. More later.
