Fishing Report for Indian River & St. Lucie River - Offshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
March 26, 2007
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past two weeks have been windy but this week has been just about unfishable due to the weather. The larger boats have been having some great days catching both dolphin and sailfish. One boat last Sunday released nine sails and also came in with some nice gaffer dolphin. The fish were caught on temperature changes in anywhere from eighty feet on out. There were also plenty of sharks in the mix if you like catching them. We are getting ready for the cobia run so be prepared to sight cast if you run across them. Also drop a couple of livies down around some of the local wrecks as the cobia can be found there on any given day. Most anglers have been forced to stay inside and fish the rivers. This has not been such a bad thing. Trout fishing has been decent on the east side of the Indian River as it is the place to get a break from the east winds which have bee blowing twenty- five to thirty miles per hour. There are also plenty of jacks and lady fish to bend a rod. Snook fishing at the bridges has been good in the early morning hours on terrorizes and pinfish. The north fork of the St. Lucie River has been a good spot for snook also. The seawalls and canals are a good bet for both live bait and topwater plugs. We released a twenty pounder in the canal I live on this morning on a live pinfish. I heard a couple of reports of anglers catching seatrout from the Palm City bridge. The winds are going to calm down around mid week so be ready to get out and catch some fish. More later.
