Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have had some great fishing out of the St. Lucie inlet the last two weeks and a wide variety as well. Mahi have been the dominant species though. They are being caught all over from 70 feet on out. We have had several trips with multiple fish. Look for the edges with scattered weed that holds small bait fish and either troll through or live bait as you drift. A chum bag will also help. Sailfish are also being caught using this method. We had a 33 inch snook the other day while dropping butterfly jigs on a wreck in 123 feet of water. We were quite surprised to see one out that deep. The sand pile, two miles northeast of the inlet, was lit up with kings feeding on sardines and cigar minnows. Some cobia have also been caught on six mile reef and amberjacks on the wrecks. A few black fin tuna are mixed in with the schools of bonita that are pounding the small bait fish that have been in abundance. Big jacks and some bluefish are being caught near the beaches. The Indian River has been yielding some big trout along with some redfish. The bridges are holding snook, black drum, Mangrove snapper and an occasional tarpon. The north fork has plenty of mullet which is bringing snook and jacks into feed. There is a variety of fish around, so get out there and enjoy it. More later.
