Snook Season Opens

Capt. Bob Bushholz
February 13, 2018
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook season is open now till June 1st with the same regulations as last year (28-32 inch slot, 1 per person). With the water warming up, look for more common snook in the inlet and docks compared to the fat and swordspines during the winter.

Pompano and spanish mackerel fishing normally picks up this time of year along with the bonefish and ladyfish in the flats. The St. Lucie Inlet sheepshead bite has really turned on recently and should produce till Easter time. Redfish and cubera snapper are a possibility.

Tripletail bite remains strong in both the Indian and St. Lucie Rivers. Find them on dock pilings, channel markers and crab trap floats with most running 4-10 lbs with a few over 20.

Water temps in the rivers recently have been running in the low 70's which is a lot more fishable than the mid and upper 50's which we had here 3 weeks ago. With calm sea conditions running 1-2 feet, I like to run outside along the beach for spanish mackerel which is always a blast.
