Spring Time Fishing Is Here

Capt. Nick Cremasco
March 24, 2017
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Offshore and River Fishing is on Fire. Over the last couple of weeks we have got to enjoy some spring time weather and with that we have had some excellent fishing both offshore/deep sea fishing and fishing in the river.

We have also had a couple of late unexpected cold fronts that caused some slower than normal fishing for the time of year. But the food has heavily outweighed the bad.

Offshore both boats have enjoyed decent mahi-mahi fishing. It is not excellent yet but is showing promise to be a great spring mahi-mahi fishing season. There are lots of smaller fish around and we are seeing a handful of gaffer dolphin everyday as well. Some of our bigger fish have been in the mid to upper 20 lb. range the past couple of weeks. Along with the mahis, we have released a few sailfish, caught some kingfish, Blackfin tuna and plenty of bonito.

The Cobia run is starting about a month late but the fish are making a great showing and we're seeing fish from 15-50lbs on a regular basis now. We have been catching Cobia on both live bait and sight fishing them on lures and jigs. This is an exciting fishery and it's just getting wramped up and should be good to excellent over the next couple of months. Along with the Cobia we start to see Permit on our nearshore structures and the beaches as well. Another great opportunity for light tackle enthusiasts.

Grouper season opens May 1st so don't forget to plan ahead if you want to test your skills and muscles catching Grouper in depths from 65-250ft of water.

In the river, fishing continues to be excellent for marshal and his guest anglers. Most of the 4-5hr trips are seeing 15-25 snook catches along with plenty of jacks, ladyfish, a few trout, redfish and Grouper as well. The peak day was 53 snook catches in a 4 hour trip with two anglers. Excellent fishing by any standards world wide. If you want to capitalize on the amazing snook fishery that Stuart Florida offers now is the time.
