Stuar Area Inshore and Offshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
June 9, 2008
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The offshore fishing in the Stuart area has really taken off in the past few days. Sailfish, dolphin and blackfin tuna have been red hot over the past weekend. The tuna schools have been hanging around Push Button Hill and many boats have been catching some on both live and chunk baits. Yesterday there were so many sailfish caught It seemed almost like the winter run we usually get. The sailfish were wide spread and were caught in various depths both north and south of the St. Lucie Inlet. We even heard of some in sixty feet of water. Bait has been plentiful with sardines on the Bull Shark Barge and threadfins in twenty feet north of the inlet. We caught a lot of kings slow trolling our live bait near the Sandpile. Yesterday we had a forty pounder slam a greenie using this method. The dolphin bite has been on and off but over the weekend just about everyone was into them. Once again they were wide spread. Look for tarpon early along the beach and remember to get ahead of the schools, shut off your engine, and wait for the fish to come to you. Before the season closed we hooked up some monster snook at the Bull Shark using livies and two to three ounce weights. Trout fishing in the Indian River has been steady using topwater and mirro lures early. Look for tripletail along the channel markers. A live shrimp on a jig works well. The weather is calling for one to two foot seas all week so get out and catch some dinner. More later.
