Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The fishing in the past two weeks has been sporadic. There have been days we trolled for hours without a knockdown, and other days when we got into a few fish. Live bait is slowly starting to show up on some of the wrecks and reefs and should improve the fishing. Some dolphin and an occasional sailfish are being caught but not in good numbers. Cobia are beginning to show up and we should see more of them each week. There were kings and cudas on the sandpile the other day feeding on live bait that is beginning to settle in there. The Spanish mackerel bite at Peck's Lake has been on one day and off the next. There are a lot of small fish all over the place in forty to fifty feet but they are hard to catch and undersized. There are big jacks off the beach north of the inlet and around the sandpile because the spawn has begun. Around the inlet there are some bluefish and an occasional pompano. The snook bite is pretty hot around the bridges. The outgoing tide at the Jensen beach causeway has been great when the wind is blowing out of the north. A couple of friends of mine have been slaughtering them on bombers when the conditions are right. Look for all the big ladyfish you want near Sandsprit Park on shrimp tipped jigs. There are snook busting bait around the seawalls and docks in the north fork of the St. Lucie River. We had a nice thirty two incher this morning on a dead sardine fished on the bottom. Trout fishing up by the power plant has been pretty decent also. Live shrimp have been working well. More later.
