Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The hot dolphin bite that we have been enjoying has started to slow down a bit over the past week or so. There are still some big fish being caught but the numbers we have seen are just not there. Live bait is spotty at best and adds to the problem. There are kings south of the St. Lucie Inlet in seventy to ninety feet of water off of the Loran Tower. If you cannot find live bait, drift dead sardines on a stinger rig and you should do well. Amberjack can be either jigged or live baited near wrecks and structure. Schools of lesser amberjack are roaming the reefs and are a lot of fun to catch on light tackle. A few sailfish are being caught but not with any consistency. Big jacks are up and down the beach and a lot of them are well over twenty pounds. Around the inlet there are some small bluefish That can be caught on chunk baits or spoons. There is a good trout bite in the Indian River north of the Jensen Beach Causeway. We had several fish in the twenty six inch range and released a lot of smaller ones. Mirro lures were the ticket that day. Snook are beginning to move towards the inlet and are being caught around the docks and seawalls near it. The bridges still are holding some snook with the best bite at night on D.O.A. terroreyes and flair hawks. Do not be surprised if you hook up with a tarpon using this method. We are looking for more tarpon to move in during the next couple of weeks as the bait situation improves. More later.
