Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
November 30, 2009
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The dolphin bite has really picked up the past two weeks. They are well spread and can be caught anywhere from eighty to two hundred and fifty feet. We had several on every trip out trolling ballyhoo. We would look for scattered weed or color changes and set out our lines. We had doubleheaders a few times and would keep one fish in the water near the boat to keep the school around us. The sailfish bite is picking up but the fish are still north of us. There are kings in sixty feet and Spanish mackerel and blue fish near the beach. The Spanish mackerel are not thick at Peck's Lake yet but the fish we caught there were four to five pounds. There are also smaller mackerel being caught inside the inlet on the incoming tide. Live bait has been tough to find on most days so have plenty of dead bait aboard when you venture out. The snapper fishing has been good at the Loran Tower in seventy feet of water. A trip the other day yielded some muttons, lanes and porgy along with some nice sized triggerfish. The pompano bite is still slow but should really improve as the water temperatures drop. More later.
