Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
September 15, 2010
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Even though there are two hurricanes churning out in the Atlantic we are fortunate that they will not hit us. The wave height will be up for the next week or so but there is some good news also. The fall mullet run has begun and the predators are out in full force. Snook, tarpon, jacks and sharks have been pounding the schools both off the beach and up the rivers. In the north fork of the St. Lucie River I have seen tarpon and snook driving the mullet out of the water. I released several snook this week and I am looking forward to September 17th when the season finally reopens. Offshore the dolphin and sail bite has been sporadic. The blackfin bite at Push Button Hill has slowed some and the fish have been small. The bottom fishing off of the Loran Tower continues to be the best bet. We have consistently limited out on vermilions and finished filling the box with big triggerfish and porgies while the trollers are coming up empty. There are some decent snapper and a couple of tripletail around the bridges. Look for the fishing to vastly improve as the mullet run gets into full swing in the next couple of weeks. More later.
