Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
April 5, 2011
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Fishing offshore has been a bit spotty lately but there a been some bright spots. The sail fish and dolphin bite has been hit and miss. Some boats do well and others do nothing because the fish are so spread out. One day they are in a hundred feet and the next day three to four hundred feet. There were several reports of both white and blue marlin being hooked in the past two weeks. There have been a few blackfin tuna caught at Push button Hill but that is primarily an early morning bite. As always, there are plenty of bonita around with an occasional king. We limited out on vermilion snapper the day after the season reopened. We also caught plenty of porgies and trigger fish along with a ton of sea bass which we had to release. Sea bass reopens on June 1st. There are still some mackerel and blue fish around along with an oaccasional pompano. Look for cobia along the beach north of the inlet and on the Sand Pile. Black drum and croaker are around the bridges by day and snook take over at night. More later.
