Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
May 31, 2011
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

May has been a fairly windy month and June is starting out the same way. Winds for the next few days are forecast to be fifteen to twenty miles per hour. Live bait has been hit and miss with no real pattern to it. The cobia bite, which had been red hot, has slowed considerably. There are a few kings being caught in sixty to eighty feet of water but look shallower if there is bait around. We caught a few dolphin in one hundred and twenty feet the other day dragging ballyhoo near the Rankin. We heard of some blackfin tuna out at Pushbutton Hill along with a few mahi. There was quite a mixed bag of bottom fish in seventy feet of water off of the Loran Tower the other day. Vermillions, porgy, trigger fish, and amberjack all helped fill the box along with a few rainbow runners. Inside the inlet there are large jacks, lady fish, sheepshead, and a couple of bonefish on the flats. Look for snook and tarpon in the St. Lucie River. The snook are around the bridges and there are tarpon up by Club Med. More later.
