Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
June 25, 2011
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The dolphin bite has slowed down but sailfish are being caught in good numbers for this time of year. Most are being caught from one hundred and twenty to one hundred and sixty feet of water. Blackfin tuna are being boated at Push Button Hill but it is usually an early bite. Bonita are everywhere and some of them are twenty pounders. The Sandpile has yielded a couple of African pompano the past week and a few mutton snapper as well. Off of the Loran Tower the other day, we had quite a mixed bag of fish. Almaco jacks, rainbow runners, along with beeliners, porgy trigger and sea bass. Even though sea bass were closed til June 1st, the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council dropped the quota from fifteen fish per person to five fish per person. This became effective June 22.
There has been plenty of threadfins south of the inlet in twenty feet of water. This is a good place to fish after the boat traffic leaves because all of that bait attracts predators. There are tarpon along the beach as well as large jacks. Schools of permit have also been spotted moving up the beach. Snook are beginning to gather at the inlet for the spawn but we leave them alone and let them do their thing even though they are catch and release. Moving inside, look for tarpon at the crossroads and snook around the bridges at night. More later.
