Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
August 16, 2012
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

Cold water has been moving in and out near the St. Lucie inlet. When it is in the bait moves out and the fishing gets tough. The current has also been moving pretty fast which makes the bottom fishing harder. Sardines have moved in around the Bull Shark Barge and have brought with them some kings, bonita, and plenty of sharks. The dolphin bite is still spotty and the sailfish fishing is decent. We had a couple of trips off of the Loran Tower and we were able to limit out on vermillions. We also caught some big porgy, lanes, and trigger fish. King mackerel could be found near the Sandpile along with barricuda. Spanish mackerel are beginning to move into Peck's Lake and areas around the inlet chasing the glass minnows that are in abundance. Tarpon are along the beach along with sharks, feasting on the glass minnows also. Look for sea bass, amberjacks, and an occasional grouper on Six Mile Reef. There are plenty of mullet in the rivers that are being crashed by big snook and tarpon. There are also black drum around the area bridges. Shrimp on a jig head will work fine. More later.
