Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
January 11, 2015
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

January 1st brought on the closure of grouper season but put Porgy and Triggerfish back on the table. We found some nice big Porgy in Seventy five feet of water straight out of the St. Lucie Inlet and were catching double headers on almost every drop. A couple of mutton snapper were also hooked. The sailfish bite has steadily picked up and we were fortunate enough to release several. We had a couple of dolphin here and there along with some barracuda and bonito. There were one hundred and forty seven sails released yesterday by twenty two boats in the annual Pelican Yacht Club Tournament. They fished in some very rough conditions due to the last cold front. Look for plenty of Spanish Mackerel near Peck's Lake south of the inlet with kings lurking on the outskirts. A few cobia have been boated near the bait schools when you can find them. Look for snook and black drum around around the bridges but remember that snook catch and release until February 15th. The pompano bite has been hit and miss but should improve with dropping water temps and there are plenty of Bluefish in close. More later.
