Stuart Area Offshore and Inshore

Capt. Kevin Drennan
September 2, 2016
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

The dog days of summer have been with us for months with temperatures in the nineties every day. It seems as if the green algae crisis is behind us and the mullet run is about to begin. As the mullet move in we are looking for the slow summer bite to heat up. Snook, tarpon, jacks, kings and sailfish will all be competing for their share of this great food source. We had a couple of nice bottom fishing trips where we boated lane and vermillion snapper with a few muttons thrown in. Trolling has been slow but that will improve as we move into the fall. Snook season opened on the 1st of September and will remain in effect until December 15th. The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council has decided to shut down most species of porgy September 3rd until January 1st. It also looks like the bag limit for mutton snapper will drop from ten per person to three per person on January 1st, 2017. Be aware of these changes and stay abreast of then on the FWC and SAFMC websites. We are looking forward to a great fall fishing season so get out and enjoy it.
