Summertime Blues

Capt. Nick Cremasco
August 30, 2018
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

In the midst of some summer time blues. Current has been nonexistent to funky with different currents on top and bottom or mostly south tide. Water has been Coolish on the surface I've seen as little as 72 degrees coming out the inlet and as high as 82.7 the last couple days.

Yesterday we had a full day schedule with Rodger Leitch and Audry Rollins-Leitch and their guests. We had good bait fishing and started off live baiting with the Tigress Kites and Balloons. We had non stop action for the first hour plus catching Kingifsh, bonito and sharks. When the bite dried up we went on the hunt for snapper. We stopped in various places and had electronic excellence on the bottom machine but couldn't buy a bite. We ended up releasing some genuine reds. Switched to live bait bottom fishing and caught a stud AJ on the #PennFathom40 paired with a #PenncarnageII rod. The combo performed flawlessly! We had 3 more quality bites that I deemed grouper or big genuine reds as we got rocked up and AJs don't rock you up. We tried some chicken rig fishing and caught some seabass, Genuine Reds and lots of Atlantic sharp nose sharks. We ended the day looking for cobia but had no luck.

Today I fished a 1/2 day with John and if we didn't have bad luck we would have no luck at all. We had 20 bites rigger fishing live baits this morning only to manage a limit of kings and a couple bonito. We went looking to bend the rod on the bottom with live bait and we fished 3 spots and never have a bite. Next we went chicken rig fishing and we pieced together a small collection of lanes and verms and called it a day.
