Summertime Fun: Bahamas, Sailfish, Mahi and More

Capt. Nick Cremasco
July 11, 2016
Stuart - Saltwater Fishing Report

July 5:

First off hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July with their friends and family. I just returned from a 5 day couples trip on the Pretty Penny! We spent our time based out of Treasure Cay on Great Abaco!

Had a fun 5 days island hoping, snorkeling and lite fishing based out of Treasure Cay on the Pretty Penny! Hit mermaid reef, a bunch of heads outside Man O War, did some conch and sea biscuit in the bay, hit witches point for dinner! Climbed the lighthouse, hit nippers, did lunch in boat harbor one day and hit the pool and a ping pong tournament. Fished Saturday and pulled off a small blue marlin, caught a tuna and some bottom fish. Broke 6 nice fish off jig fishing in 60-90ft!

July 6:

Fished double 1/2 day charters today. On our morning trip we caught some Bonito and released 1 out of 3 sailfish! We bottom fished for a little bit and caught a handful of Almaco and amberjacks! On our afternoon trip we found some manta rays but unfortunately they were not holding any Cobia. We ran off and set out a spread of live baits and we had a sailfish get tangled in the leader chasing the bait! The fish went away. After a few bonito and a jack or two on the bottom we hooked a double-header of sailfish and released 1 and the other jumped off! That ended our day!

Both of our sailfishes released today were the first for our customers!

July 7:

We fished a 3/4 day charter today with Jeff and his boys and we had lots of action. We released a sailfish out of 3 bites which was the first sailfish ever for Jeff. We also caught about 15 rod bending bonito. I got a call from a buddy that had found some manta rays again and we ran in and gave it a couple hours and caught a couple of 25lb Cobia for the dinner table!

July 8:

Got bill and his buddies today for a scheduled full day. They purchased a gift certificate from one of the 12 charitable donations we make a year!

Looking forward to hopefully dinner and a sailfish show for them

Caught bait and tried some light bottom fishing for snapper but the cool water had other plans. We live baited for a while and caught some bonito and then released a triple-header of sailfish. These were first sailfish releases for all the anglers! After releasing the triple-header the guys said they had enough and our full day Gift Certificate turned into a 12:30 return to the dock!

July 9:

Well here it is folks. Your first place and only Grouper weighed in the 2016 MCAC Reef Tournament!

Poor conditions plagued the playing field. I fished from the 90 line to the 230 line from 75-345ft of water. We had ice cold bottom and zero readings in most spots! Baits were dying on the first drop. We anchored multiple times and switched to dead baits and still no bites. Ran out to some snowy numbers but had 4.4 knots of north current and after the 2nd failed attempt to hand crank that deep we gave up and ran back into 235ft where we caught a 4.18lb Snowy for anger John "The Quietman" Ruiz. John is a two time heavyweight boxing champion of the world. He retired in 2010! This grouper was his first ocean fish. He also released his first sailfish which we hooked at anchor.

We caught 2 American red snapper we released and a Almaco Jack along with Doug Blanchard releasing a 2nd sailfish for the day!

Great times with great people!

Time for some new sparing gear for Zane. His got an autograph. Thanks John.
