Anna Maria Island February Fishing Report

Capt. Matt Ercoli
February 23, 2018
Tampa Bay - Saltwater Fishing Report

Anna Maria Island February Fishing Report
Anna Maria Island Fishing Charters are on fire right now. It's been a quick warm up here on the Island and the fishing is heating up fast. There's nothing like spring, it is here and the long term forecast is calling for it to stick around for a while which is good news for us fishermen.
Inshore we're in full spring mode, the fish have moved out of their winter areas and have flooded the flats looking for food. They are hungry and the fishing has exploded. The Snook fishing is as good as it gets. Yesterday my fishermen caught over 60 Snook before noon, the larger ones 30 inches along with a few Reds. The Trout fishing is equally as good if you are looking for some good eating fish. Catching a limit of 16 to 19 inchers has been pretty easy lately and at times the action is as fast as the Snook fishing. Most of the Reds I have been catching are all keepers and are mixed in with the Snook; there are a few large schools around as well.
Offshore the water temp is still a little cooler. It is still mostly bottom fishing for Grouper, Snapper, Hogfish and Flounder. There are some Mackerel and Tunny around as well and a few Permit. The offshore fishing has been ok, but it will really start to heat up soon as the water temperatures climb and the pelagic fish start to show up. I think the Kingfish will be here pretty soon, along with more Tunny, Mackerel, Cobia and Permit.
Also we are running out of Tarpon dates quickly. Remember, May 1st through the 3rd week of July is peak Tarpon around here. So if you are thinking about Tarpon fishing let me know soon. I hope you have enjoyed this Anna Maria Island fishing report and forecast. Catch you on the water.
